I've been fascinated by seahorses ever since I was a child and first saw them in an aquarium in the south of England - I spent hours drawing and painting them and had a seahorse stuffed animal. I've always gravitated towards seahorse jewelry, seahorse pictures and seahorse books. I wondered what it would be like to keep pet seahorses.

I remember seeing dried seahorses sold as ornaments and my mother warning me, even back in the 70s, that it was not a good idea to encourage trade in dead seahorses since they were rare and precious creatures.

As an adult I've made a point of visiting aquariums in the UK, Canada and the US to see different seahorse species and find out how seahorses are bred in captivity. I love to watch documentaries on the Discovery Channel and learn new seahorse facts.
