Seahorse Aquarium Ornaments

What kinds of aquarium ornaments are appropriate for your seahorse tank?

• Don't overcrowd your tank with ornaments - after all, you want to be able to enjoy watching your seahorses as they move around together.
• Make sure that any ornaments you buy don't have sharp edges - seahorses need to wrap their tails around something that won't cut them!
• Think outside of the box when it comes to holdfasts - colored plastic rope can make an attractive yet highly functional display.
• If you want your aquarium to look authentic, artificial branching coral and grasses will provide holdfasts without introducing toxins.
• Seahorses prefer red, yellow or orange artificial coral colors!
• Consider the size of your seahorses when choosing aquarium ornaments - are there sufficient holdfasts for the size of their tails? Pick hitching posts with the appropriate diameter for the species of seahorse you are keeping.
• Don't forget you'll need some living rock in your seahorse tank too! Tonga branch rock has the additional benefit of providing hitching posts.
